I then ran the test again over the USB plug which has SMART support, and here it tested OK. During that test the drive was connected via the e-SATA plug, which has no SMART support. In general I don't trust WDs diagnostics program very much anymore, since it once reported one of my Studio drives having bad sectors and therefore should be replaced. Unfortunately your program also says it's not enough to having the disk replaced, so I can only hope it breaks down at some point for these slow-downs are really annnoying. Great to know what's actually wrong with the disk, don't think i'd ever have figured it out without your program! I suspected it might be something like that, but WDs diagnostics program always reports everything is OK, and the problem is not mentioned under SMART info. Now I can see that the disk has 33 weak sectors which must be the cause of the problem. I've been having problems with a rather new WD disk for a long time, I/O operations regularly slow down to a few Kb/s for long periods and I haven't been able to pinpoint the problem.
